MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR

Lorraine Dominguez Stubblefield, President

As 2023 comes to an end, may the peace and joy of the holidays be with you today and throughout the New Year. This past year Casa DeLavy has been filled with wonderful smells of homemade soups, casseroles, cookies, pastries and a fresh pot of coffee or tea prepared by historian Martha Liebert and the volunteers, who like in their own homes traditionally do not entertain or conduct gatherings without food. Volunteers are enticed by food and friendship to meet new people and our groups mentality is “mi casa es su casa” my home is your home. A place where positive energy is directed to meet our goal of attracting new audiences to inspire and preserve our culture.

The sound of busyness from the old and new volunteers that continue to bring their own unique talents and expertise to work on projects, programs, exhibits, workshops, grounds, and house maintenance all blended onsite continues to grow. Together we have worked at preserving our personal, community and state history including environmentally and health friendly topics. We have shared hidden histories, diverse stories, genealogy and transformed the present to engage our existing audience in more meaningful ways with success. Some of our barriers to accessing our content on-line and programming continue to be addressed on our shoestring budget and lack of expertise in that field. This year we are thrilled to have a few younger volunteers who are tech savvy that are assisting in the world of websites, smartphones, and tablets. Our new and improved website: www. Sandovalhistory.org is still being worked on and you can now find more programs and links to other like organizations. Hands-on workshops are also being added as requested by our membership. A Facebook page has been created and we would appreciate you following us and commenting on what your likes are and how we can improve to best share our programs. The Veterans – Praise Glory and Honor of our Civil War through Vietnam era Phase 2 which has been an on-going project for close to 3 years is almost complete and some of it is already on our website. A posting when this is complete will be done soon.

Special thanks to all the volunteers, members and non-members that have also filled the meetings to capacity and been so appreciative of our efforts. Please continue to join us and invite others to do so.  I look forward to 2024 with added improvements and being among a great group of friends.

This generation will never understand what the JC Penny Christmas catalog meant to us 25 years ago.

May you all be granted favor of health, peace & joy. Today only happens once….make it amazing.
